Today we took a closer look at Nunavut. When discussing pictures students were asked to say...
I see…
I think…
I wonder…

This encouraged students to have a deeper conversation and explain their thinking.

“I see dogs pulling a sled.  I think they are Arctic Wolves.  I wonder if the man tamed them.”
-       Madalyn

“I see a yellow building.  I think it is a house. “
-       Nathan

“I see those little boxes.  I think cranes pick them up.  I wonder if it is an abandoned town.”
-       Isabelle

“I see rocks and buildings.  I think it is a neighborhood. I wonder if it is by the water.”
-       Mason

After we saw all of the pictures.  We watched a video made by a grade 2 teacher in Nunavut.  She told us about life in Nunavut.  We then compared Nunavut to Calgary.

“I think it is similar to Calgary because it is colorful and it is close.  It is part of Canada.”
-       Madalyn

“I think it is different because the water might have some animals inside of it.”
-       Ben

“I looks similar to Calgary because there is a building that has colors like our school.  And there are Rocky Mountains.  I also think different because the houses are really little.”
