Spelling

Miriam P. Trehearne has said "By the end of First Grade, at least 70 percent of what children read and write is composed of approximately 100 words."  She indicated that students should be able to read these by the end of grade one and spell them by the end of grade two.

Our word wall is composed of these 106 high frequency words.

I spent last week checking to see what words each student is able to spell.  I then took a tally and identified 36 words that students continue to struggle spelling.  We will continue working on learning these high frequency words for the month of January and February.

This week's spelling words are:

1. I'm
2. don't
3. two
4. could
5. would
6. should

Please practice spelling these words at home (18 ways to practice spelling at home), as we will be working on learning them in school.  On Monday I will test the students to see how they did.

Lion King forms are due Friday.

Please print off the attached paper and return it to school ASAP.
