In math, we have been learning to add two-digit numbers together i.e., 25 + 37=
The first strategy we have learned to solve these problems is using Base Ten Blocks.
When drawing a Base Ten Block:
"A ones block is a little block that is square." Brynn
"A tens block is ten ones put together." Max
"A hundreds block is a giant square, that is ten tens blocks attached together." Jenna
There is ONE RULE we can never forget!!!
"If you have too much ones (i.e., more then 9) you have to cross them out with a pencil crayon and make a tens block." Sawyer
"If you get to 100 with the tens you have to make a 100s block." Adam
Today, students were asked to solve one question using the base ten strategy. There were given two questions to pick from.
We then took up the answer to see who can successfully use this strategy hen adding two-digit numbers together. Here is the video with the strategy explanation and answer.
Please look in your child's backpack for a small blue or grey piece of paper. Here you will see how your child did! I encourage you to practice questions like this at home!!!!!
Tomorrow, we will be moving on from addition to subtraction! However, we will be using the same Base Ten Blocks strategy!
